Catalina Muñoz-Arias is a Colombian materials and product designer focused on performance, sports, and material-driven innovation. With an MFA in Design from Ohio State University and a background in Industrial Design, she specializes in applying bio-based and sustainable materials to enhance durability, comfort, and human experience in performance-driven products.
Her work integrates circular design, systems thinking, and biomimicry to translate material research into real-world applications across sports, footwear, and outdoor contexts. Through her thesis, Materia: A Material Selection Tool for Advancing Bio-based Materials Adoption, she explores how to bridge material innovation with accessible and scalable product development.
As a former competitive swimmer and active triathlete, Catalina brings an embodied understanding of movement and performance to her design approach. This perspective informs how she designs, considering not only material properties and sustainability, but also how products behave, adapt, and perform in motion.
